I don't believe I spent £5 on magazines to cut up straight away.
I have found this project particulary hard as it's not something I am really interested in. I struggles at first to find something i wanted to do, and ended up starting to create various different posters but was never happy with them. In the end i thought the only way to come up with something half decent would be to try and associate the poster with something i am interested in. Initially i thought i wouldn't be able to combine my interests with the brief.
With some scissors, glue and the most important subject known to mankind i came up with something i was finally happy with!...

This isn't my final poster, of course, although i will be using this as my magazine front cover that will be projected onto the surface of sorts.
It was fun to do and looks pretty. Great success.

I want to go home
The Idea for my poster was to create a piece of technology that allows you to project magazines onto a surface so it would never be a hassle to carry big books around. The concept of the projector would be that instead of buying your usual magazine, instead you would purchase a micro chip containing the magazine to load into your ‘projector’. The remote is small and simple, with only the options of your favourite magazines and the option of ‘back’ and ‘next’ which controls the pages of the magazine.
The poster will be created in two seperate parts, consisting of a magazine that i will design to be projected onto a surface, and the second part being the remote control that projects the magazine.
The magazine will be the most fun to create because i am a child.

I don't want to be a robot.

Developement of technology seems to be a tough concept to keep up with these days. I MUST BE OUT OF DATE!
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy having a camera on my phone, it allows me to take pictures whilst being out if i had forgot my camera. Or having an mp3 player on my phone incase the night before I forgot to charge up my ipod. I think the fact we need two of each though is just wasteful really.
Mobile Camera - Digital Camera
Ipod - MP3 phone
Television set - Television computer
Personal organiser - Computer
Playstation - PS3
I can understand wanting to have mobile versions of the things you already have at home, it has its uses. But the fact we spend so much money on updating technology, just to have something we already have, just seems ludicrous. Sorry my spelling is bad.
I personally won't be purchasing the Ipod Touch this Christmas. How ever much I would like to, my current ipod (the first 7mg video ipod) is doing its purpose just fine.
In other news...
Today we had a crit on our ideas for the 2020 brief. Some peoples ideas really scared me. I decided to keep my idea quite simply where as other people where on about chips that control your brian and never having to leave the house again because your living in a virtual world. With everything there are advantages and disadvantages. Theres nothing I would like more to wake up on a cold, rainy morning, and instead of having to walk to college just log into a computer and virtually do your work. Depending on what subjects you study that would be more useful to some than others. It seems like an ideal idea for when its cold and rainy, when you can't really be bothered to leave the house, however, when the sun is out and its hot, is it really healthy to be stuck in the house all day infront of a cimputer getting taught your daily English or Maths class? I think certain aspects of online learning are really useless, Moodle for example allows you to access information about a specific project which you could not get if it was out of college times. The thought of having to tell stories about what school was like to grandchildren etc is a saddening thought though.

To infinite... and beyond!
Whilst trying to research on the 2020 brief, I came accross this crazy website. Its called "News Of The Future" and it basically predicts what the future will be like from 2020 and beyond.
Some of the stories are absolute madness. Non of the stories are bound to be anywhere near accurate, although with headlines such like "US Medicare Costs Now 7.5% of GDP" and "Senior Drivers Account for 25% of US Driver Fatalities" it just kind of proves my speculation about how nothing at all will have dramatically changed in 2020. Of course theres the usual stories like "First Tourist Heading for Mars" and "Beam Yourself Around the World with Telebeamer", but for how long have people been saying that? I'm sure once over, by the year 2000 we where meant to be floating around in bubble cars or something...
Anyway if anyone wants to have a read of some of these stories then the website is http://www.newsoffuture.com/ (I tried to link it but it wouldn't work!)
There might actually be some pretty interesting stuff on there (hmm), I think i might read around a bit more, but if its anything like i've already read its pretty humourous reading.

I don't like Star Wars, its just not the way i roll.
Watching this video makes me realise how over rated technology can be in the sense of creating a good piece of Media. This video I have posted is the most simple video in the world yet I never get bored of watching it (and theres always something new that I find which I never realised before!). It has no flashy effects or such, yet I think its so much more interesting than a load of music videos out there that are over done with effects and fancy filming. That is probably because the song is one of favourite songs, but having one of your favourite songs accompanied by a bad music video is bad crack.
This got me thinking about what I want to for the 2020 brief. Well I still actually don't know what to do but today I was thinking to myself that I don't actually think much will of changed in 13 years. The most will be that will of happened is there will be a mobile phone that you can fit in... your tooth and will ring, be a camera, music player, video recorder, computer, boil water, do your ironing and what not.
One thing that scares me is all this online teaching that we are getting encouraged to take part in. I think the internet is starting to take over peoples lives and before long it will be so drastic that people will not have to leave the house. Soon we will be educated over the internet instead of having taught classes, we already talk to our friends online but soon it will be as bad as we never have to see them because we will have everything before our eyes at home on your desktop computer. "Online disco tonight at 10pm, be there or be a low life". Its all madness and it scares me. I blame Tom from myspace.

Why are we talking about Lara Croft?
After further analysing my poster I feel it didn't exactly come accross the way I wanted it to.
The main inspiration for my poster was from a video by one of my favourite bands, Death Cab For Cutie. The video is called crooked teeth and includes animation as well as moving image.
The Animation was made of pictures cut out and put together. I tried to replicate this style with my own spin... but it just turned out bad. Well not bad, I think (hope) it did turn out ok. Just not as good as it looked in my head!

Its two month till Jesusmas!
Not having Photoshop at home is turning out to be a royal pain in the arse.
There was enough time to work on the poster so i'm not going to use that as an excuse, however, I guess with 6 other briefs to do (or something...) things just started to get a little confusing and stressful.
Not being able to work on the poster at home was a major loss as I felt I didn't have enough time to make the poster as good as I would of liked, and I felt myself rushing to get it done so parts turned out a tad shabby.
Overall I am mildy pleased with my poster, more parts better than others but I hope i've done enough to pass.
I think it represents me pretty well, although everyone thinks different things so to some people it might just make me look like a 5 year old that has been let lose with some scissors and glue.
There isn't really much i can say I would of done differently. The only dilemma of the project was not having Photoshop at home to have more time to work on the poster and make it better. I think the college should give me Photoshop for free...with my dyslexia and all... *hint hint*.
Heres my poster, If you say anything mean about it i will inform the virtual police... (not belong before we have some of them you know...)

Damn the Royal Mail being on strike!
We have recently started another Module for Critical Studies.
The two briefs in which we have to complete are not necessarily something to look forward to. The briefs are maily written essays and oral presentations, two things in which i am not best at.
The first part of the brief "Illuminations" in which i had complete was an image analysis on two different advertisements. I didn't feel as if this essay was too difficult to complete despite the little time we had to complete. It was a nice easy opener to the brief and hopefully the easiness will not stop there!!
Image Analysis Exercise
The purpose of this citical analysis is to analyse two different advertisements, stating their target audience, differences and similarities and how the adverts come across in general. I will start this assignment by analysing the separate adverts then compare the two and finish with an evaluation of my findings.
Meadowhall Website

The first advert I studied was an internet webpage for Meadowhall Shopping centre. My first impressions from looking at the webpage was that it is predominantly targeted for young women as it stereotypes how people seem to see women. On page is an illustration of a young woman with shopping bags. The bags look as if they have been placed in the sun, as they bordered in a shiny yellow pattern. It could be argued that this was done to suggest that shopping is women’s sun. And the sun is often represented with happiness so by doing this its showing that shopping makes women most happy. The page is decorated with pink flowery décor, also another feminine trait. After further studying the website it came to my attention that the shopping centre sells more than just what women would find appealing, for example the centre sells from children’s toys to electrical and entertainment stores. With such a broad range of stores in the centre it would seem more sensible to aim the website to as many types of people as the store has to offer, because if a man visited the website, his initial thoughts would be that the website is a girls website full of information about clothes and shoes and such like. Another feminine feature in the website is the use of font. The font is curly and almost handwritten, although the directory is in bold type, almost to show that its more serious as the rest of the site. All in all the website would not appeal to men or children.
Absolut Vodka Poster

The second advert I examined was a poster advertisement for Absolut Vodka. My first impressions of the advert was that is was targeted for people interested in the “drinking scene”, perhaps people ranged from 18 to 25 year olds. After closer examination it came to my attention that the advert advertises three different types of vodka for three different moods. The three moods where a busy city at night, somewhere that looks like a posh Jazz bar, and a beach. The three moods are montaged together within the poster which is a clever technique to use as its broadening its audience with one advert instead of making three different adverts for the three different vodkas. With that in mind, the poster is widening its audience to appeal to everyone with one of them tastes in lifestyle. The poster is very modern and contemporary and with its bright colours and busy layout it makes the poster interesting and eye catching. The poster almost seems to be trying to sell you a lifestyle or a “good time”. I think this advert especially works well to target its audience because of the content and style of the poster.
Both the adverts are very different in relation to how they try and appeal to their audiences. The Meadowhall website is very limited as well as simple and stereotypical, where as the Absolut vodka has more to offer to a range of people and uses the three different moods cleverly to target more people of a different class.
After writing this assessment I’ve came to realise that within adverting, its about both content and style that makes an advertisement successful. Without the right content to appeal to all of the audience that the creator would hope for it will limit the attraction to the advertisement.

I wonder how one would go about making some jaffa cake cake
Today we got a new assignment to do. In short, i have to create an A4 poster about me.
I had a little think about it and one idea which came to mind is a photograph from the back of a cinema facing frontwards onto the cinema screen. On the screen will be a collection of things of interest to me. I havn't yet decided how i am going to put them together. I sketched one design on how i would i like it to look, i think i will go and design what i would like to put on the cinema screen now.
Now that i have my idea i'm finding it quite hard to think of back up plans, as i mainly just want to focus on developing this idea. I'm sure with a tad more brian power something will come up though...
I really like Vintage art posters and the old Vogue covers, although i'm not sure how i could fit them into my poster. I don't think it would fit in too well with the theme. I enjoy the simpleness of the posters, yet they are classy and still interesting to look at.
I got some samples of some of my favourite Vintage Art posters...

I really can't concentrate on anything whilst the Black Eyed Peas are on the radio
Today whilst walking into town it came to my attention that a large amount of tramps have dogs. That made me think... when i wanted a dog i couldn't get one because of how much they are. Unless these tramps have been going around "dog stealing" then they are wasting money on dogs when they could of bought a tent or food or something. I passed a man with about 3 or 4 dogs. He could of bought trollies full of food for the price of them. I can't really see many advantages of wanting a dog when your homeless anyway. Yeah it must get lonely and i guess it won't encourage the drunks to wee on you when theres a dog woofing at them but your just going to starv the dog aswell as yourself, if not you will get less to eat because you will have to feed the dog aswell. He also had dreadlocks in, they must be pricey, right? Actually when i think about it, he might of just been a scruffy looking man sitting on the floor with his dogs...
